Development of Botanical Garden in Lombok Island

Related development Lombok Botanical Garden, Lombok Timur regency government will do Environmental Impact Analysis. According to the Head of Forestry and Plantations Lombok Timur Regency Ir. H. Soemantoro, development Lombok Botanical Garden is an initiative of the Central Government wants every province has a botanical garden. From 33 Provinces in Indonesia, the government prioritizes the development of the Botanic Garden in 5 Provinces. And West Nusa Tenggara is one of them.

After a thorough evaluation criteria that will be the location where the construction Botanical Garden, Lombok Timur regency finally chosen. Precisely in Lemor Protected Forest Area, District Suela, Lombok Timur Regency. Regions Lemor best qualified in terms of integrity and condition of vegetation region.

Plan for Botanical Gardens will be built in the area of 131 hectares, covering 89.2 hectares protected forest area and the rest use the land Kopang Office Garden II. Protected Forest Areas in situ will be the area that will be maintained in the original condition. While Exsitu region will be concentrated in the Garden Department Kopang II that will be the conservation of various kinds of vegetation from other areas, especially areas Nusa Tenggara. In addition to public consultation relating to development plans Lombok Botanical Garden, the plan also will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government with Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).

In preparation for the meeting Lombok development Botanical Garden led by the Head of the Forestry and Plantation which was attended by relevant agencies such as Head of the Environment Agency and Investment of Lombok Timur Regency and consultants Santiri Foundation also Gema Alam NTB, revealed that what distinguishes the Botanical Gardens of Lombok with others is a botanical garden was built with and promote community-based public participation.

For that explains Head of Forestry and Plantation, the three agenda of activities conducted in the year 2010 the development of Biodiversity Conservation Area, Water Resources and Forest, empowerment and strengthening of social and economic resilience of the community and to encourage and develop community-based organizations and local institutions based on biodiversity.

This agenda will be implemented in various activities such as mapping and conservation efforts on biodiversity, improving the quality of the sources of springs and forests, improvement of agricultural business, animal husbandry, plantation and tourism people in the surrounding area Lombok Botanical Garden will be developed for strengthening and empowerment endurance socioeconomic communities.

Previous teams from Bogor Botanical Gardens also has conducted an analysis of vegetation in the Protected Forest Areas that will be Lemor Regions Exsitu and Insitu on garden area Kopang Department II, to record plant species in the area, including many rare plants, and determine the plant conservation plan locally and which will be brought from various regions in Nusa Tenggara.

Expected by the Lombok Botanical Garden not only serves as a conservation area vegetation plants, but can be a center of research, education and tourism development that can improve the community's economy around.
